Product: Carbon Filter

Country: Canada

Application: Wastewater

Activated carbon filter is a commonly used water treatment equipment. As a pre-treatment for water desalination systems, it can adsorb residual chlorine that cannot be removed in primary filtration, effectively ensuring the service life of downstream equipment, improving water quality, and preventing pollution, especially protecting downstream components like reverse osmosis membranes and ion exchange resins from free oxygen toxicity contamination. Activated carbon filters play a significant role in purifying water resources. Through the purification of activated carbon filters, impurities such as organic matter, heavy metals, and colloids in dirty water can be effectively filtered out. Professionally produced activated carbon filters can not only filter obvious impurities in water but also filter ions, odors, and other impurities, greatly improving water quality. Activated carbon filters are widely used in factory wastewater treatment and urban water purification.

Activated carbon is an amorphous carbon composed of many microcrystals with a graphite-like layer structure, with crystal defects and a large specific surface area, forming a porous structure. According to the classification of raw materials, it can be divided into coal-based activated carbon, wood-based carbon, shell-based carbon, and bone-based carbon. According to its form, it can be divided into columnar carbon, crushed carbon, powder carbon, and fiber activated carbon. The main raw materials of activated carbon are organic materials rich in carbon elements, such as coal, wood, and shells. Through activation, a complex pore structure with adsorption capacity is formed. Pores with a radius greater than 20,000 nm are macropores, those between 150-20,000 nm are mesopores, and those smaller than 150 nm are micropores. The adsorption action of activated carbon mainly occurs in these voids and on the surface. The abundant molecules on the pore walls of activated carbon can generate strong forces to attract impurities in water and air into the pores. The adsorption of activated carbon can be divided into physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. Physical adsorption mainly occurs in the rich micropores of activated carbon, used to remove impurities in water and air, and the molecular diameter of these impurities must be smaller than the pore size of activated carbon. Different raw materials and processing techniques result in different micro-pore structures, specific surface areas, and pore sizes of activated carbon, suitable for different requirements. Activated carbon not only contains carbon elements but also has functional groups on its surface. It reacts chemically with the adsorbed substance, often occurring on the surface of activated carbon. Impurities in the medium continuously enter the porous structure of activated carbon through physical and chemical adsorption, saturating the adsorption of activated carbon and reducing its adsorption effect. After saturation, activated carbon needs to undergo activation and regeneration to restore its adsorption capacity for repeated use. The main indicators for evaluating the adsorption performance of activated carbon are methylene blue value, iodine value, caramel adsorption value, etc. The larger the adsorption capacity, the better the adsorption effect.
