What's the application of sand filter?
Sand filter also known as a media filter or multi-media filter, is a deep filtration device that uses multiple layers of filter media with different particle sizes as the filter medium to purify water through physical interception and adsorption. In the field of industrial water treatment, sand filters are widely used in various scenarios due to their advantages such as simple structure, large flow rate, low operating cost, and convenient maintenance.

In circulating cooling water systems, sand filters are the most common bypass filtration devices. Industrial cooling water continuously concentrates during circulation, while also introducing dust, algae spores from the air, and corrosion products from pipelines. These impurities adhere to the surface of heat exchangers, reducing heat exchange efficiency and even causing pipe blockage. Sand filters are typically installed on the bypass pipeline of cooling towers to continuously filter a portion of the circulating water, keeping the suspended solids concentration at a low level.
In the pretreatment process of reverse osmosis systems, sand filters play a crucial role. For pure water preparation systems using surface water or groundwater as the source, sand filters can stably control the effluent turbidity below 1 NTU, providing reliable protection for subsequent ultrafiltration or reverse osmosis membranes. Many pure water systems in the electronics, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage industries use sand filters as standard equipment.
In the field of industrial wastewater treatment, sand filters are often used in advanced treatment or reuse stages. For example, in textile dyeing and printing wastewater, papermaking wastewater, and municipal wastewater treatment plants, sand filters are often used in conjunction with coagulation sedimentation or flotation processes to ensure stable effluent quality. Furthermore, in the turbidity recirculation water treatment systems of the steel industry, sand filters are used to remove iron oxide scale and oil, enabling water recycling.
In the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries, sand filters are commonly used for the pretreatment of process water. For instance, in beer brewing, beverage production, and pharmaceutical water preparation, sand filters remove silt, rust, and residual chlorine from raw water, protecting subsequent activated carbon filters and ion exchange equipment. These industries have extremely high requirements for water quality stability, and sand filters can provide stable effluent quality, ensuring the reliability of the production process.

If you can provide specific application scenarios (such as the type of water source, flow rate, influent water quality indicators, and target requirements), JX Filtration can provide you with more targeted sand filter selection advice.
