What is Circulating Cooling Water Filter?

There are various kinds of filter for cooling water filtration. JX Filtration has developed shallow sand filter, automatic backwash disc filter, quartz sand filter for this application. The filtration efficiency up to 99%.

Shallow sand filter

Shallow sand filter is relative to the ordinary sand filter, the height of the filter layer of the ordinary sand filter is generally about 1.2m, and the shallow sand is only about 0.4m, as the name suggests, the amount of sand used is small, so it is called a shallow sand filter. Shallow sand filter is generally composed of a number of standard high-speed sand cylinder units, which is equipped with a unique water distributor and water collector, and has a unique two-way automatic flushing valve, which can realize multiple standard high-speed sand cylinders in normal system operation one by one backwash, fully automatic program control. 

Advantages: large amount of filtration water, high filtration speed is generally about 40m/h, small backwashing water consumption, convenient equipment installation, easy operation and so on. The filtration precision is moderate, suitable for rapid coarse filtration. 

Disadvantages: due to the shallow sand layer, the amount of dirt is small, and the backwashing is frequent. When a single backwash is carried out by other filters, the backwash is not complete if the design water pressure is small and unreasonable. 

Application: Chemical, pharmaceutical and coal chemicals with a relatively large circulating cooling water volume (more than 2000m3/h).

Disc filter is composed of a set of polypropylene laminations with grooves on both sides with grooves in different directions, adjacent to the two stacks superimposed, and the groove edges on the adjacent surfaces form a large number of intersections, which constitute a large number of cavities and irregular pathways, which are constantly shrinking outward and inward. When filtering, these pathways cause turbulent flow of water, which eventually causes impurities in the water to be intercepted at various intersections. If a stack of laminated sheets is superimposed on the skeleton of the filter core, a filter unit with external looseness and internal tightness is formed under the pressure of the spring and incoming water. 

The different shades and number of grooves on the lamination determine the filtration accuracy of the filter unit, and the filtration precision commonly used for circulating cooling water is 150 microns or 200 microns. 

Advantages: filtration accuracy of 20-200 microns can be selected, small footprint, large water flow rate. 

Disadvantages: backwashing is not thorough, easy to block when there is slime, small amount of dirt, frequent backwashing. 

Application: municipal, agricultural irrigation water, river water purification.

Pressure type quartz sand filter 

Quartz sand filter 


Used as a side filtration quartz sand filter, the height of the filter layer is only about 0.5-0.7m, can also be made of quartz sand plus anthracite coal to make a multi-media filter. The filter speed is as high as 25-35m/h, the turbidity of the effluent water is generally less than 5NTU, can be equipped with a differential pressure switch and electric valve, made into an automatic operation, automatic backwashing of the side filter unit. 

Advantages: good effluent water quality, large water output, small footprint. 

Disadvantages: running, backwashing requires great power, often need compressed air or fan gas water mixed backwashing. 

Application: power generation, metallurgy, chemical industry, papermaking, beverage, etc. raw water pre-filtration treatment, domestic water pretreatment, industrial water treatment, wastewater treatment, industrial circulating cooling water, etc.
