What is Water Content in Dewatering Industry?
The understanding of the nature of sludge plays an important role in the treatment and disposal and utilization of sludge. The properties of sludge mainly include: moisture content (water content) and solid content, rheological characteristics, dewatering performance and sludge specific resistance, volatile solids and ash, density of wet sludge and density of dry sludge, calorific value of sludge and toxicity and hazard of sludge.
The moisture content and solid content of the sludge
The mass fraction of the water contained in the sludge per unit mass is called the moisture content (water content %), and the mass fraction of the corresponding solid substances contained in the sludge is called the solid content (%).
The moisture content of sludge is generally very high, and the solid content is very low, such as the solid content of the initial sedimentation sludge in urban sewage plants is 2% to 4%, while the remaining activated sludge is 0.5% to 0.8%.
- Volute screw press water content after treatment: 70-80%
- Normal filter press water content after treatment: 50-60%
- Diaphragm filter press water content after treatment: 20-30%
- Vacuum drum filter water content after treatment: 50-65%
- Decanter centrifuge water content after treatment: 60-80%
Calculation method
The moisture content of sludge: P=M/(M+S)·100%
P--- Sludge moisture content, %;
M--Moisture mass in sludge;
S--Total solids mass in sludge.
Sludge is a mixture of solid matter including organic and inorganic matter, therefore, the density of sludge varies with the proportion of organic and inorganic matter in it.
The sludge volume can be calculated as follows: V=S/(ρwρsPs) x100
V-- Sludge volume, m3;
S--Total solids mass in sludge, kg;
ρw--Density of water in sludge, kg/m3;
ρs--Density of sludge, kg/m3;
Ps---Solid content in sludge,%.
Volume of solids in sludge: Vs=s/ρs
Vs--Volume of solids in sludge, m3.
In general, the moisture content of sludge is relatively high. The large volume of sludge is not conducive to the storage, transportation, treatment and utilization of sludge, so it is necessary to dehydrate and dry the sludge (sludge dryer), and the dewatering treatment effect is also very obvious. For example, 1m3 moisture content of 95% of domestic sewage sludge, its volume of about 1000L, if the moisture content after dehydration is reduced by 10%, its volume is reduced by 2/3; the moisture content is reduced by 30%, its volume is reduced by 6/7.
