What is the features for different filter media?
Filter media is a general term for water treatment filter materials, mainly used for domestic sewage, industrial sewage, pure water, drinking water filtration.
Filter material is mainly divided into two categories, one is the granular material used for water filtration in the water treatment equipment, usually referring to quartz sand, nutshell, granular activated carbon, etc.
The other type is the physical separation of the filter media, mainly including filter cloth, filter screen, filter element, filter paper and the membrane.
Quartz sand
At present, there are two kinds of raw materials used in the production of quartz sand:
1. the use of natural river sand, sea sand, sieving. The advantage is that the local materials are used in place and the cost is low; The disadvantages are: due to the long erosion time of water, the strength is reduced, the wear rate and damage rate are high, the service life is short, and the mechanical strength is poor. These disadvantages are the primary factors affecting the filtration rate.
2. the use of natural quartz deposits, through crushing, sieving, selection, with high density, high mechanical strength, pure color advantages, suitable for drinking water filtration, circulating water treatment and sewage recycling. The commonly used specifications of quartz sand are: 0.5 ~ 1.0mm, 0.6 ~ 1.2mm, 1 ~ 2mm, 2 ~ 4mm, 4 ~ 8mm, 8 ~ 16mm, 16 ~ 32mm.
Nutshell
1. Characteristics of nutshell filter material
(1) with porous and multi-faceted characteristics, strong pollution interception force, high removal rate of oil and suspended solids;
(2) With multi-prism and different particle sizes, it forms a deep bed filtration, which enhances the ability to remove oil and the filtration speed;
(3) It has hydrophilic and non-oil-loving and suitable density, easy to backwash, and strong regenerative power;
(4) Large hardness, and after special treatment is not easy to corrode, no need to replace the filter material, only a small amount of supplementation every year, can save maintenance costs and maintenance time, improve utilization.
2. Application of nutshell filter material
(1) Oilfield oily sewage treatment: degreasing and suspended solids;
(2) Other industrial oily pollution treatment: degreasing and suspended solids;
(3) Industrial water treatment: remove suspended solids in water and improve water quality.
Activated carbon
It has the dual characteristics of physical adsorption and chemical adsorption, and can selectively adsorb various substances in the gas and liquid phases to achieve the purposes of decolorization and refining, disinfection and deodorization, decontamination and purification.
Activated carbon for water treatment should have three requirements: large adsorption capacity, fast adsorption speed, and good mechanical strength. In addition to other external conditions, the adsorption capacity of activated carbon is mainly related to the specific surface area of activated carbon, the specific surface area is large, the number of micropores is large, and the adsorbent matter that can be adsorbed on the fine pore wall is more.
The adsorption rate is mainly related to the particle size and pore distribution, and the activated carbon used for water treatment requires the transition hole (radius 2.0~ 100 nm) to be more developed, which is conducive to the diffusion of the adsorbent to the micropores. The smaller the particle size of activated carbon, the faster the adsorption rate, but the head loss should increase, generally in the range of 8 to 30 mesh. The mechanical wear resistance of activated carbon directly affects the service life of activated carbon.
