What's the Sedimentation tank?

Solid Liquid Separator

Sedimentation tank is a treatment structure that uses gravity sedimentation to remove suspended particles with a density greater than that of water from water. It is one of the most widely used treatment units in wastewater treatment.

The working principle of the sedimentation tank is mainly to use gravity to settle the solid particles in the sewage. When the wastewater flows into the sedimentation tank, the particles suspended in the water begin to sink due to their own weight due to the slowdown of the flow rate. The larger particles first fall to the bottom to form a mud layer.

Types of sedimentation tanks:

Horizontal flow sedimentation tank: The pool is rectangular, and the water flow moves horizontally in the pool. It is suitable for large, medium and small sewage treatment projects. The amount of water treated is not limited, the sedimentation effect is good, and the adaptability to water volume and temperature changes is strong. However, it is not easy to evenly distribute the inlet and outlet water.

Vertical flow sedimentation tank: The wastewater in the pool flows vertically, and the direction of the water flow is opposite to the direction of particle sedimentation. It occupies a small area and is easy to discharge mud, but it is deep, difficult to construct, and has a high cost.

Radial flow sedimentation tank: It is generally a larger round pool, and the water flow radiates horizontally in the pool. Most of them use mechanical scraping, which has good operation and simple management. However, mechanical sludge removal equipment is complex and has high requirements for construction quality.

Inclined plate (tube) sedimentation tank: add inclined plates or bee-shaped inclined tubes in the sedimentation tank to improve sedimentation efficiency. It has the advantages of increased sedimentation area, high sedimentation efficiency, and large water production.

Sedimentation tanks play an important role in the sewage treatment process. Its principle is simple but effective. Through reasonable design and operation management, it can effectively remove suspended matter and sludge in sewage.
